The Integrated Filipino Canadian Nurses Association (IFCNA) Gala Night 2025 gathered nurses, healthcare leaders, educators, students, and community advocates for an unforgettable evening dedicated to honoring excellence and strengthening the bonds within the Filipino Canadian nursing community. Filled with inspiring speeches, meaningful connections, and extraordinary achievements, the gala illuminated the passion and resilience that define Filipino nurses across Canada.
One of the evening’s most heartfelt moments was the recognition of Minda Salanga, who received the prestigious IFCNA Nursing Service Award. Celebrated for her remarkable years of service and unwavering commitment to patient care, Minda stands as a true example of compassion and leadership in the profession. She continues to influence countless nurses through her dedication and mentorship—an achievement that resonates deeply within the community.
A highlight of the night was a meaningful encounter with Dean Wendy Ellis from George Brown College’s Health and Sciences Team. Conversations centered on collaborative initiatives that aim to enhance support for Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs)—ensuring they have access to the training, resources, and guidance needed to succeed in their Canadian nursing journey. The gala provided a perfect platform for forging partnerships that will help shape a stronger future for IENs across the GTA.
Guests also enjoyed lively and inspiring exchanges with prominent personalities, including celebrated Filipino news anchor Ms. Cherie Mercado. Her presence added excitement to the evening, reminding attendees of the importance of storytelling, advocacy, and representation in uplifting healthcare professionals and their experiences.
Another standout moment came from Raymund Mendoza, who was honored with the Mentorship Excellence Award and nominated as Pinoy IEN RN of the Year 2025. In his touching message, Raymund expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to guiding and empowering IENs. His dedication to helping others thrive exemplifies the spirit of mentorship that IFCNA continues to cultivate in the community.
The gala also featured persona stories that highlighted the resilience of Filipino nurses. One attendee shared a powerful testimony of overcoming physical discomfort—headaches, dizziness, cold hands, and nausea—just to be present at the event. Despite the challenge, gratitude prevailed:
“Praise God! Congratulations IFCNA for such a great turnout. Thank you for the opportunity and for believing in us.”
Special acknowledgments were extended to Austine Enriquez Gaqui, Mark Gravoso, Jennifer Ruelos, Khae-cee Wemyss, Sir Ninoy Ramos, and Ate Adona Agcaoili for their support and contributions.
The IFCNA Gala Night 2025 was more than an awards celebration—it was a gathering of shared experiences, cultural pride, and renewed purpose. It brought together individuals who continue to elevate the nursing profession while embodying the resilience and compassion of the Filipino community.
As the evening concluded, one message resonated clearly:
Filipino nurses are leaders, innovators, healers, and heroes—and their impact continues to shape the future of Canadian healthcare.
